New Medicines Service (NMS): Your Personal Guide to Starting New Treatments

Starting a new medication can feel overwhelming, especially when it’s part of managing a long-term health condition. At THEONLINECHEMIST.UK LTD, we are committed to making that transition smoother and more reassuring through our New Medicines Service (NMS) — a free, NHS-supported initiative created to guide you through the initial stages of your new treatment.

What is the New Medicines Service?

The New Medicines Service is designed for patients who have been newly prescribed medicines for certain long-term conditions such as asthma, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It offers dedicated support from our pharmacists to help you understand how your medicine works, how to take it correctly, and what to expect in terms of side effects or changes in your health.

How the NMS Works at THEONLINECHEMIST.UK LTD

Once you collect your new prescription from our pharmacy, you will be invited to take part in the service. A brief initial consultation will be scheduled — either in person at our pharmacy location or over the phone — to walk you through your new medication.

During this private and confidential consultation, our pharmacist will:

  • Explain what your new medicine is for and how it works in your body
  • Provide clear instructions on how and when to take it
  • Discuss common side effects and what to do if you experience any
  • Answer any questions or concerns you may have

A follow-up consultation will take place within 1–2 weeks to check in on your progress. This ensures that you're responding well to the medicine, managing any side effects, and feeling confident in your treatment plan. If necessary, further support or referral to your GP will be provided.

Why Choose Our NMS?

At THEONLINECHEMIST.UK LTD, we go beyond the basics of dispensing. Our pharmacists are here to walk alongside you on your treatment journey, making sure you feel empowered and informed. We know that understanding your medication improves adherence and leads to better health outcomes — and we’re proud to help make that possible.

Whether you're starting medicine for managing blood pressure, cholesterol, asthma, or any other chronic condition, our New Medicines Service offers compassionate, patient-centered support tailored to your personal healthcare goals.

  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Asthma or COPD
